In case you can’t access the video, here’s Sarah’s message in a nutshell:
We’re coming off of a great weekend of sunny days and warm temperatures. Finally, it feels like spring and better days are ahead. Our plan is to make sure better days are ahead for everyone in our community, and you can help us do that by making a donation tomorrow (Giving Tuesday).
The Need Is Great
To give you an example of the kind of need we’re seeing at Friends In Deed because of COVID-19, I’d like to tell you about Joe, one of our clients who called the helpline last week. Normally, Joe and his partner are able to make ends meet through his employment as a cook in a diner and her disability benefits. Because of COVID-19 and its safeguards, however, Joe’s hours were cut, and he can no longer afford his diabetes medication. Joe’s not a person who doesn’t want to work or do what he is supposed to do. His situation is the consequence of this virus pure and simple. Unfortunately, there are many, many people in our county in the same boat.
Our Support Is Greater
We at Friends In Deed are here to help people like Joe, and we plan to be there for all the people in need in our community. That’s because we know that you are always there for us. Because of you, we have a firm foundation from which to be nimble. Because of you, our assistance can be flexible and responsive to needs as they arise no matter the situation or crisis. Yes, your support has been consistent and true. There are many examples of this, but the one that is truly illustrative is your amazing support during the 2008 recession. If you’ll recall, we needed to purchase a building that would not only provide us offices from which to work but also provide us a warehouse for our growing Furniture program. Despite the fact that we asked for your assistance during a recession, we were able to purchase a building, remodel it and pay it off within three years.
Please Give on Giving Tuesday
Unfortunately, the current crisis may cause even more havoc than the 2008 recession. That’s why we have to ask for your help yet again; so please, give as much as you are able. A pool of our supporters has already started us off with a $10,000 challenge grant. Our goal is to raise $30,000+ in funds for COVID Relief by the end of the day tomorrow.
Thank You for Your Support!
